How to Survive 100,000 Visitors
Do you think your site can survive Digg-effect if it is hosted on Virtual Private Server with 256 MB RAM?
If you think it is not possible, then you’d better read this article.
SnapFish - Online Photo Printing
I read news at The Strait Times that SnapFish, which is under HP now, has entered Singapore market.
SnapFish offers high quality prints for only S$0.19 each, which is considered low cost. If you print your digital photo outside, it will cost you S$0.30 at least per photo. With SnapFish, you can upload and print photo at your convenience. In addition, SnapFish provides online photo sharing and unlimited photo storage, as long as you purchase photo merchandise (prints, enlargements, or any photo gift) through the website at least once every 365 days.
Obviously their target market is computer-savvy users, who like to order online, and photographers to archive and show off their photos collection.
It would be interesting to see how technology moves from traditional film to digital photo to online photo sharing and how traditional photo shops will compete with SnapFish. Traditional photo shop has advantage, though, because they serve their customers personally. In order to survive, traditional photo shops need to be more innovative, in terms of service, and provides better customer service to their existing customers, which can lead to cross-sales. For example, photo shops can teach their customers to take better photograph and assist their customers in photo development.
Hello World
Hello World!
Today I relocated my old blog from Blogger.com into DreamHost web hosting provider. I purchased a 2-years plan hosting package. After discounted US$ 97, I paid only US$ 93.8 for 2 years, which I thought it is a very good deal. The advantage hosting with DreamHost is huge diskspace, huge bandwidth, SSH access, and I can host multiple domains with the same account (of course it will share the same disk space and bandwidth).
To support my blogging activity, I bought new portable keyboard last week for my old laptop Acer TravelMate, a 6-years old laptop! The keyboard is not expensive, only S$16. One thing that I like from the new keyboard is that it is made of rubber and liquid, thus you can fold or twist or wash it if you like without damaging the keyboard itself. However, I need a little bit of time to get used to the keys arrangement.
Maybe some of you will laugh why I still retain such an old laptop. Although it is already 6 years old, it is still fast enough to browse Internet, write blog, or develop lightweight applications in PHP or Java. The only problem I had is that the keyboard sometimes doesn’t respond when I press the keys. That’s why I bought new keyboard to revive this laptop.
Another thing I want to update you is this blog will focus on making money online. My main focus would be on SEO, Internet marketing, social media, and product development using open source technology. Occasionally, I will also write about funny video on YouTube or Zen habit as intermezzo.
